In Solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in Iranian Prisons and Across the World

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign began in Bahman 1402 (January–February 2024) as a hunger strike by political prisoners in Iran protesting the death penalty. Since then, it has continued for weeks across 41 prisons throughout the country.

Last year alone, over 1000 people were executed in Iran—an average of three per day. Shockingly, according to the most recent reports, this brutal pace has only intensified. In Ordibehesht 1404 (April–May 2025), more than 96 individuals, including one woman, were executed. The use of executions to instill fear and suppress dissent is a deliberate and inhumane strategy by a regime determined to maintain power through terror.

We, the undersigned—from human rights institutions, international organizations, and communities of conscience around the world—stand united in opposition to the death penalty. We recognize state executions for what they are: acts of murder sanctioned by the state. Exposing those complicit in these crimes, including elements of the judiciary, are essential to bringing accountability and justice through independent human rights mechanisms.

We reaffirm our full solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign—within Iranian prisons and in dozens of cities globally. We strongly condemn the death sentences issued to women activists Pakhshan Azizi, Arisheh Moradi, Sharifeh Mohammadi, and all other prisoners facing execution. We demand the immediate reversal of all such inhumane and unjust sentences.
